Nine Network of Public Media is a non-profit media organization located in a 70,000 sf building in the Grand Center district in St. Louis, Missouri. Axi-Ome was initially hired to design an area for the newly formed V9 Digital entity within the Nine Network. Subsequently we were asked to create a master plan of the entire facility imagining what kind activities could take place on the campus.
As part of the creative process we conducted a facilities workshop and tour for the board members and senior staff of Nine Network to get their feedback and learn of their visions of what Nine Network could evolve into in the future. After narrowing the scope we conducted an extensive survey and documented employee work flow, storage requirements, as well as auditing space usage. This information gave us the ability to efficiently sculpt the new spaces while in the space planning phase.
South elevation facing Olive. Proposed a new lobby that was more visually welcoming to the community with open-air space on the second level for events. The perforated panels were to extend from the existing Public Media Commons wall and wrap around the front of the building creating more cohesion between the old and new.
A new digital gallery was envisioned after proceeding through the lobby before you enter into the production area.
A new addition on the west side of the building will accommodate a new central dining and meeting space for employees that opens up to the outdoors on the north.
The open work areas on the second level are to foster a sense of unity through visual connections, while the desk units accommodate storage and individual work spaces with acoustic paneling to help keep a quite work environment. Translucent panel walls separate the directors offices maintaining privacy.
The Ideas Space is a flexible workroom where impromptu meetings can take place.
